Miller, Mary (5 April 1860 - 20 March 1937)

Mrs. Mary Miller, an old resident of Pine Valley passed away at the home of her daughter, Ms. Clare *Smail Saturday, March 20. The funeral was held Tuesday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. A more complete obituary will be published later.

Mrs. Mary Miller for many years a resident of Pine Valley, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clair Smale, at 9:20 p.m., March 20, 1937, aged 76 years, 11 months and 15 days. The cause of her death was the after effects of a stroke of paralysis.

Mary Lauer, daughter of Peter and Mary Lauer, was born at New Berlin, Wis., April 5, 1860. She grew to womanhood there, and in 1879 was married to John Miller. In 1902 they came to Clark County and bought the Williams farm west of the city, which was the family home for more than 25 years. Mr. Miller died in 1914. After his death she went to live at Auburndale for a time, returning again to the family home.

In 1932 she went with her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Clair Smale to live on the Fred Hemp farm which they purchased, and where she died.

She was a woman highly respected by all who knew her, a kind wife and mother and a good neighbor.

She is survived by ten children: Mary, Mrs. B. J. Gehrman, Mellen, Wis.; Joseph Miller, Piney, Manitoba, Canada; John Miller, Jefferson , Wis.; Kathryn Sperbeck, Minneapolis, Minn.; Agnes, Mrs. a. C. Knutson, Fullerton, North Dakota; Alice, Mrs. Geo. Shaughnessy, Milwaukee; Frank and Albert Miller of Neillsville; Mrs. Clair Smale, Pine Valley.

The funeral was held Tuesday morning, March 23, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Father Zahn officiating.

She leaves also 35 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Other relatives from away who attended the funeral were three nieces of the deceased, Mary C. Rank of Minneapolis; Mrs. Veronica Berger and Mrs. Welch of Lomira, Wis.
